Given that Amelia is six months TODAY, I figured I should get this officially posted! Oops!
Hey there, big girl! It’s been a full month of milestones for you — from dropping the dreamfeed and the swaddle to eating some real food. You’re growing up so quickly! Part of us wants time to slow down, but we’d also be lying if we said we weren’t ready for all of the fun stuff that comes in the next few years. Charlotte especially — she talks all of the time about the things you’ll do together when you “grow up.”
You’re becoming a little more social, although you save your smiles and laughs for family. Usually, if a stranger approaches you, you give them a “drop dead” look until they grow uncomfortable. Looks aside though, you’ll go to anyone and let them hold you. Until you want Mama again — sometimes, it’s 20 minutes and sometimes it’s more like two. We’ve started taking you to the nursery at church. They say you either don’t make a peep — or you’re screaming your head off at pickup. Again, you are our child that feels all of the feelings!
You grow sweeter and sweeter every day. You love grabbing faces and “giving kisses.” Most nights, you snuggle on me after your last meal. It’s such a sweet time together, and I’m pretty sure I take a photo every time, i.e. I can’t get enough of it. I love that even though you’re only five months old, we know just how much you love us. I hope you know how much we love you back, baby girl.

Weight: 15 lbs, 12 oz
Height: 25 in
Clothing size: 3 – 6 month clothes and a few 6 – 9 month clothes
Amelia Likes: Making noises of any and every kind (cooing, giggling, blowing raspberries, growling, squawking), reading books, grabbing EVERYTHING (loves her feet, especially), exploring her toys and being naked.
Amelia Dislikes: Still hates being woken up and is just kind of “meh” about her first foray into foods.
Firsts: Easter, nursery at church, arm-free-swaddle-sleeping and bites of food.
Diapers: Still doing medium cloth diapers at home and size two diapers when we’re on the go.
Sleep: We dropped the dreamfeed! This means Mom is indulging in a glass of wine after bedtime. Woohoo! Amelia takes her last meal at around 8:00 and sleeps until 7 or 7:30 a.m. Thank goodness this girl loves her sleep as much as her parents do. She is taking three naps a day as well, each about an hour and a half to two hours long — and is awake for roughly an hour and a half each time. We also transitioned her from being swaddled while sleeping to arms-free. It was honestly not as bad as I envisioned it. Her naps for a few days were rough, but the nighttime sleep was still pretty great. She now sleeps in a sleep sack.
Feed: Because we dropped the dreamfeed, Amelia is now nursing five times a day. After her third nap, I nurse her and feed her a bit of baby oatmeal mixed with the tiniest bit of baby food for some flavor. She doesn’t hate baby oatmeal, but she is very far from loving it. Sometimes, she will eat for five minutes. Other nights, she won’t even take five bites. Aaaaand still no progress on a bottle. We’ve honestly kind of given up on that altogether. So you win this one, Amelia!
